I love a good cigar now and then, but I’m still looking out for what it is I like, and ultimately, for my cigar! You know, the one I always go back to, always have on hand, always willing to share. I thought I’d found it in this one that little did I know, was an extremely limited edition cigar never to be seen again. And then again with the Hammer & Sickle Tradicion. Unfortunately, no one around here sells it and it’s even difficult to get online. So the search continues….
I stopped by my favorite cigar shop the other day, Broadway Cigar of Vancouver, and the good fellow there pointed me to three possible contenders to try. I’ll get to the other two later, but the first of the three I tried is Punch Knuckle Buster. I was really hoping this would be a good, solid cigar as the price of it makes it reasonable enough to be a regular smoke. Sadly, it’s not to be.
It’s not a “bad” cigar (very subjective) by any means! But it is wholly unremarkable. The aroma is nice, comfortable, warm. But the flavor is nearly non-existent. Not peppery at least (not a fan of pepper notes), but nothing else, either. I smoked about 2/3 to 3/4 before it started to finally taste of something, but at that point it was bitter, sour ash. I expected maybe something to develop about halfway in, but no. Basically nothing until it was something, and that something was the end of it.
It did, however, round out my new favorite sipping rum, oddly enough. Somehow its non-existent flavor seemed to enhance the flavor of my drink. Weird, that. Oh well, I’m looking forward to the next one — a Macanudo Inspirado Orange Label — tomorrow.
